Infant Torticollis Chiropractic Treatment
Torticollis is a condition where an infant has a tight or shortened neck muscle (most commonly the sternocleidomastoid muscle). This causes the baby’s head to tilt to one side while the chin rotates to the opposite side.
It may result in:
● Limited neck movement
● Preference for looking in one direction
● Head flattening on one side (positional plagiocephaly)
● Difficulty with balanced motor development if untreated
Infant massage is not a cure for torticollis, but it can be a supportive therapy when used alongside medical care such as physiotherapy or osteopathy.
Massage may help by:
● Reducing muscle tightness in the neck
● Improving circulation to affected muscles
● Increasing range of motion
● Promoting relaxation and body awareness
● Supporting more balanced movement patterns
