Infant W Sitting Treatment
W sitting position is where the child sits on the inner side of the tights, the knees bent and the legs placed on each side of the buttocks. This creates a visual W letter if to see from the top.
The child’s hips are rotated inward, with legs aside the buttocks, which creates a wide base of support. Naturally a child will sit in the easiest position possible. In W sitting position the balance and righting reactions do not develop normally. These are the precursor skills for standing, walking and running.
There are many consequences to W sitting: Difficult rotations of the body, weight shift, impact on the development of the lumbar spine, posture issues, scoliosis, walking/running difficulties and tripping over the feet.
