About Manual Guide INFANT MASSAGE THERAPY

Manual Guide INFANT MASSAGE THERAPY (further the Manual) is part of the course designed to help everyone to learn the theory behind massaging movements, as well as to practice what was learned during in-person massage sessions led by the course instructor Aurelia Vizitiu. The student is expected to learn the theory from the Manual and then to apply the knowledge during practical sessions. Upon completion of the tests at the end of the course, the participant will receive a certificate of completion of the entire course. The Manual itself consists of two parts.

The Manual’s Part I outlines the main points of the infant massage, its benefits, precautions, and helpful tips for massage therapists and parents regarding what they should pay attention to prior, during and after massage treatment. Part I describes in depth main types of the massage (e.g., effleurage, kneading, friction, and vibration) and massage techniques with application to the specific body parts (e.g., back, chest, leg, arm etc.). The Part I of the Manual also examines the massage tone, newborn reflexes as well as the milestones of a child’s physical development during the first year of life and correlates theory with the proposed massage techniques and age-related exercises. The Part I contains a lot of pictures and diagrams that would assist the audience in navigating and learning complex information in an easy way. The Part I is designed for anybody who wants to learn about infant massage and it is comprehensible to people without medical background.

The Manual’s Part II is intended mainly for medical professionals because it applies the theoretical basis from Part I towards various diagnosis and health conditions in children during their first year of life. Various birth trauma and its clinical presentation are examined and specific massage techniques are suggested. Massage techniques in challenging health conditions such as damages of the central nervous system, the spine, fractures, torticollis, pneumonia, Coxofemoral dysplasia, W-sitting, clubfoot, and cerebral palsy are thoroughly addressed.
Aurelia Vizitiu shares her professional and hands-on experience and invites everybody to explore children’s massage.
