Infant Abdominal Hernia Treatment
A condition when abdominal muscles are distant from the midline of the abdomen, and in this way making possible for the internal organs bulging into this defect, causing the bellybutton to protrude.
The child must be seen by the doctor first to exclude the possible complications, such as intestinal invagination, or even to see if there is need in surgery.
Most of the umbilical hernia will be treated without medical treatment. Surgery is done only if the hernia doesn’t close by age 4-5, or the hernia becomes incarcerated.
To reduce the size of the hernia bulge we can do several things, such as positioning on the belly, tummy time, massage of the abdomen. We recommend to see our office to help you with the massage treatment and teaching how to do this safely and efficiently.
